Changing Media Usage Methods Of Terrorist Organizaiıons in The Transition From Traditional Media to New Media: The Case of PKK

Summary

With the present study, it is aimed to examine the effects of traditional media and new media tools on the methods used and applied by terrorist organizations in order to reach their goals, and to reveal the changes created by the new media tools in the methods of terrorist organizations and the advantages these changes provide to terrorist organizations and the threats they pose in terms of public security. In this context, the traditional and new media tools that the PKK terrorist organization has been using since its establishment were investigated, and the effects of these tools on the organization's strategy were examined. As a result of the researches, it has been understood that with the use of new media tools, terrorist organizations has gained advantages such as confidentiality, logistics, scope and cost in their propaganda, financial resource provision, execution of organizational trainings, planning, coordination, recruitment of personnel, cyber terrorism activities. It has been understood that these advantages have created new challenges in the field of public security in terms of determination of the activities and members of the organization and prevention.
